FAQ

A fault code shows that there is a problem in a circuit or system but not its cause. So after reading the code we look at live data and, where needed, measure the circuit and part concerned. That way we avoid replacing parts unnecessarily.

It is not compulsory, but an appointment shortens the wait. We recommend an appointment for maintenance, and for gearbox faults we suggest calling first to describe the symptom. You can book by phone, WhatsApp or the form on the site.

Warranty terms vary by manufacturer and vehicle. We recommend checking the service and authorised-workshop conditions in your warranty booklet and asking the manufacturer or seller where you are unsure. We record the work we carry out and tell you about it.

Yes. For a pre-purchase check, call first to book. The stored faults in the car's computer are read, and oil leaks and operating values are checked; we tell you the result clearly. On the test drive we also recommend watching cold starts, low-speed behaviour and behaviour on a hill.

The gearbox type depends on engine, model year and trim. You can look at the lettering on the gear console and dashboard (DSG, S tronic, Tiptronic, PDK); definite information comes from the chassis number. If you are unsure, call and we will check together.

Jolts or thumps when changing gear, shuddering when pulling away, a delay when engaging a gear, revs rising without the car accelerating, limp mode, an oil leak and a gearbox warning on the dashboard are the main signs.

We do not recommend it. Driving on with a small fault can damage expensive parts such as the clutch and mechatronic unit. When you notice a symptom, we recommend having the car checked as soon as possible.

Time and cost depend on which unit the fault is in, so giving a firm price by phone would not be right. After the read-out and measurements we tell you the work, part options, price and estimated time and start with your approval.

The mechatronic unit is the hydraulic and electronic unit that manages gear changes in dual-clutch gearboxes. When it fails you may see jolts or delays when changing gear, a flashing gear indicator or limp mode. Because clutch or oil problems can cause the same symptoms, measurements come first.

Stop in a safe place and do not drive hard. Switching the engine off and on can clear the warning temporarily, but the fault record stays in the car's computer. Bring the car in slowly over a short distance; if it cannot move, a tow truck is safer.

A repair solves the fault without opening the gearbox casing, for example by replacing a sensor, a connection or a unit. An overhaul involves removing and opening the gearbox and renewing internal parts such as clutches, bearings and seals.

The interval depends on the transmission type, manufacturer information, mileage and driving style. Earlier renewal is recommended for heavy city use, towing or heavy loads. We can work out the right interval for your car together.

That wording usually relates to the warranty period of the gearbox. Transmission oil is worn by heat and friction; for trouble-free use in the long term, renewing it according to driving conditions is often worthwhile. We explain the recommendation for your gearbox type.

In a dry clutch the discs are not in an oil bath; in a wet clutch they work in transmission oil, which cools them. Oil and filter service is especially important on wet-clutch gearboxes. We check from the chassis number which type your car has.

Engine oil and filter are changed, air, pollen and fuel filters are renewed according to mileage; brake fluid, coolant and other fluids, brake pads and discs, tyres, battery and underbody are checked. At the end the fault memory is read and the service indicator is reset.
